DANCE! DANCE!! DANCE!!!

Last Week of School!

Consider these things as we move forward!

Implicit Association Task (Click HERE)

This task helps to make you aware of the attitudes and assumptions you have but aren't necessarily aware that you have.  These are called implicit biases and associations.  Often, we may THINK we feel a certain way, but our brain is programmed to think differently, such as with race, gender, age, etc.  For example, I might believe wholeheartedly that both men and women are created equal and that no gender is better than the other, but, because we live in a society that relies on stereotypes and has sexism ingrained into almost everything we do, you might have unconscious and automatic associations about one gender or the other that you are unaware of.  They might even be inconsistent with what you believe and value!

The purpose of doing this task is to gain awareness of what your biases are so we can open up a discussion about how to confront prejudice, both obvious and subtle, in our lives!

First-Person Shooter Task (Click HERE)

We've all heard the controversy and maybe even seen the frightening statistics about race and police brutality/shootings.  This task (build to resemble a game) helps to shed some light on this phenomenon.  Linked to what we looked at with the Implicit Association Task (IAT), this game specifically focuses on how police officers have to make quick decisions when there might be a potentially dangerous situation.  Sometimes the results are fatal and there is, without question, a link between our unconscious prejudices and biases, and how we respond  to the world around us.  Police brutality and shootings is just one way where unconscious stereotyping and prejudice  becomes very real.  How do you think you would perform?  Take the test and see!
