SAMR/TPACK Reflection

The technology that I am most interested in using in my classroom in Remind.  Truthfully, I wish I had known about it sooner!  The few of my students who were failing at Mercy Academy went on an email reminder system with me where I would send them emails anytime a major assignment was due or they had failed to submit an assignment.  Had I had a Remind account, I could have sent these reminders much easier.  Since I intend to transfer into the public school system and work with at-risk students, the need for something like this is likely to be greater than it was at Mercy Academy.  I will definitely be using it in the future to send reminders to students and parents on upcoming tests, deadlines, and school events!  Hopefully this will not only  help the students to feel more involved in my class, but will also encourage parents to feel involved in their child's education.

Though this particular technology will likely not be used as part of a particular lesson, it can be used to support my instruction by helping to keep students accountable for their lessons and assignments.  This technology would fall at the Modification or Augmentation level of the SAMR model.  Depending on the student, the use of Remind might modify the way that they record and obtain their homework and other lesson information, or it might simply augment it by improving the functionality of how lesson and assignment information is delivered.  Additionally, it provides augmentation by ensuring that parents as well as students are able to access class information.  Finally, this lesson is aligned with the tenets of the TPACK model as it uses technology to help administer lesson and assignment information by helping to support class materials and lesson goals through technology, potentially providing necessary content information through links and messages sent via the Remind system, and helping students to be prepared for class so that the teaching itself can flow smoothly.
